I had forgotten all about this video until I saw it mentioned in this Observer article about music videos. Although other videos, such as Thriller, had included scripted narratives before, I think this was the first video to go to the extent of making the actual track part of the background of a traditional narrative unrelated to the music, which I think is very clever and imaginative. I like the way the central character is forced to carry around a tape deck playing the title track, for a reason which cannot be explained within the story itself, and is only understandable in the context of the viewer who is aware that the film is a music video. The surrealness is added to by the fact that the character is a dog, and emphasised by the contrast between these bizarre elements and the detailed characterisation, reminiscent of a Woody Allen film.

zootropichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11786153251416826391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33748528.post-31893512653348487412007-10-07T13:47:00.001+01:002007-10-08T10:10:04.831+01:00Radiohead - There, ThereAn interesting video and good song from Radiohead. Radiohead are letting people choose how much to pay for the digital version of their new album, but frankly the quality of their albums has been so variable that surely it would be better to let people hear it before deciding how much they want to pay. I'm sure it will be totally crap anyway. I think that after OK Computer they didn't think they would be able to make another album that good so they pretended they didn't want to and just made stupid experimental stuff.

zootropichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11786153251416826391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33748528.post-88782813624106404862007-10-06T14:29:00.000+01:002007-10-06T14:33:17.460+01:00Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About ItA great tune from Fedde Le Grand (and Ida Corr). I'm not sure why he has to stand like that though, maybe he's got something wrong with his neck. Anyway, it's good that he's speaking out against the hypocritical US/UK/Israeli governments' aggressive, self-interested foreign policies and the misery caused by them (not to mention the instigation of militancy). Radio 1 actually felt the need to warn listeners before playing the song, which is kind of stupid.
zootropichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11786153251416826391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33748528.post-69295241240460842322007-09-30T11:36:00.001+01:002007-09-30T16:53:48.721+01:00M.I.A. - Paper Planes (Live)M.I.A. singing Paper Planes on the David Letterman show (the sound of gunshots has been removed from the chorus though). I think Dizzee's got a problem with white kids trying to be cool like him which is why he's got a nerdy white boy dancing in his video.
